John Argue is an actor, director, and theater arts teacher who has lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1960.
He taught drama, movement and voice at U.C. Berkeley, S.F. State, and at the American Conservatory Theater.
In 1970, he founded his own theater studio, Acting Openhand, where he produced original plays and pioneered advanced techniques for actor training.
He worked as a drama therapist with children and adults in institutions during the 70’s and 80’s.
In 1985 he began teaching movement and voice for people with Parkinson’s disease at his studio, at Kaiser Permanente, and at other health facilities.
His approach reflects his extensive training in yoga, tai-chi and dance.
The John Argue Method™ can improve flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination, help prevent falls, improve facial expressiveness and improve intelligibility of speech.
The techniques are published in his book entitled Parkinson’s Disease & The Art of Moving (New Harbinger Publications, January 2000.)
His Video Companion to Parkinson’s Disease & The Art of Moving was released in August 2003.
